We are seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician. The candidate must have extensive knowledge in the controls and automation processes in Industrial Facilities. This includes component installation such as VFDs, PLCs, instrumentation, etc., as well as all power and controls wiring of said items. Technicians are responsible for installing and completing high-quality electrical field work and taking measures to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities: The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required. Additional responsibilities may also be assigned.

  • Interpret schematic drawings of relay logic diagrams, PLC programs, motor control circuit diagrams, pneumatic loops, etc.
  • Perform installation, integration and maintenance of process instrumentation equipment to include gauges, switches, controllers, recorders, transmitters, temperature, etc.
  • Perform installation, integration and maintenance of motor control circuits and power circuits.
  • Ability to use correct Calibration instrument and tooling to perform field calibration of instrumentation and record data on correct form.
  • Ability to perform a field failure analysis to determine if problem is process driven or failed instrumentation.
  • Perform installation of new control circuits, modification of existing electrical systems as requested, to include design, load and implementation of new logic.
  • Determine faults of PLC based systems and implement solutions within logic.
  • Perform installation of all electrical conduits and raceways to include GRC, IMC, EMT, PVC and various types of basket/ladder tray.
  • Perform proper terminations of all I/O components, instrumentations, etc. and ensure proper labeling is installed to meet specifications.
  • Organizes and runs scheduled work orders within department to meet on-time needs
  • Communicate with vendors, engineers, owners, service managers and other contractors to assure jobs are completed within scope and budget.
  • Treat clients with the highest degree of respect and work to develop a partnership environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of controls and automation experience
  • 2+ of leadership responsibilities
  • Understanding and use of calibration tools required to perform tasks, to include but not limited to:
    • Process Meters
    • Test Pressure Kits & Gauges
    • RTD/Temp. Calibrators
    • Milliamp Meters
    • Dual-block Calibrator
    • HART 475 Communicator or...
    • AMS Trex Communicator
  • TDLR issued Journeyman’s License
  • Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
  • Understand priorities communicated by leadership and oversees construction schedule based on resources and lead times of components/equipment.
  • Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents.
  • Basic computer skills:
    • Capable of running updated scheduling reports, ensuring department work transactions are completed correctly, and basic use of Microsoft Office suite.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Potty's).
  • Job requires employee to have required personal tools with them (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.).
  • Work from all type ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders, and all size extension ladders and carry and relocate up to 12' step ladders by oneself).
  • Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder (Class 1 - 250 lbs., Class 1A - 300 lbs.
  • Perform work at various heights, up to 90' from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas.
  • Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, and attics).
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (hard hat and safety glasses) and respirator when required.
  • Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as required, and night shifts.

 

PHYSICAL FUNCTION

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Lift 51 pounds, 20 times per day.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Constantly moving on your feet.
  • Climb ladders (all types).
  • Completing overhead work for full day assignments.
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction, but acceptable for use.
  • Possess good vision (normal or corrected).
  • Possess good hearing (normal or corrected).
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions including jobsite directions, maps, and instructional manuals
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions
