  • Overview

    We have an opening for a Continuous Improvement Specialist who will be responsible for the continued implementation of Cummings Electrical’s Lean principles to eliminate waste and reduce overall costs. This role is responsible for facilitating the Continuous Improvement Program.

    Tasks will include but are not limited to, documenting Cummings Electrical business processes and their functional requirements, development of proof of value demonstrations to showcase the benefits, and documenting and outlining the methodology used to formally define and implement processes. This position requires leading teams and implementing process improvement.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic insight and evaluation of the organization's progress.
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and prioritize improvement ideas with management.
    • Ensure cross functional coordination of process improvement projects, by partnering with internal, external & client stakeholders to identify and implement future state processes
    • Lead or assist projects from idea generation to execution with the goal of improving productivity.
    • Monitor progress and intervene when needed, and work across functions to rally and lead teams in order to solve problems.
    • Balance multiple projects and meet deadlines while exemplifying exceptional leadership and management skills.
    • Document business processes, analyze, study and identify opportunities for Continuous Improvement.
    • Develop reporting and present findings with management and other personnel to identify and implement strategies that will address tactical and strategic goals.
    • Exhibit the ability to be a team player with a positive attitude in order to effectively collaborate with peers and multiple teams.
    • Adapt to quickly changing priorities in a continuously evolving environment.
    • Target process improvement initiatives, working with process owners and project team members through all phases of planning, implementation and control.
    • Responsible for clarifying scope and ensuring process improvement effort maintains direction and fulfills expectations of sponsors, using charters and other project management tools.
    • Work with area leaders for all Continuous Improvement activities to ensure that processes are measured, monitored and controlled through Standard work.
    • Support and mentor other change champions across the business to enhance our Lean culture.
    • Acting as a change agent - deliver the change management framework to ensure support and buy-in for improvement projects.
    • Support daily operations to improve process reliability and overall performance. Key success factors include improving work performance, increasing team efficiencies, and ensuring processes are followed.
    • Must be able to identify non-value added tasks and remove waste within processes.
    • Lead CIP training and support activities with the goal of improving employee engagement.
    • Facilitate continuous improvement across local operations and act as a mentor and change agent for leadership, supervisors, and front line personnel.
    • Facilitate Kaizen events and drive best practices to strengthen continuous improvement mindset throughout the organization.
    • Expedite problem solving (root cause analysis) complete with corrective action solutions. Must work closely with operations.
    • Gather data and analyze to make predictions, assess trends, and map out future processes.
    • Develop and maintain dashboards for reporting.
    • Perform gap analysis and partner with onsite staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

    Qualifications

    • 3-5 years’ experience working in continuous improvement.
    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Operations Management, Business Communications or relevant field is preferred.
    • Must have excellent written, listening and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate with all levels of the organization.
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project) and Visio.
    • Proficiency with Value Stream Mapping, A3 Projects, 5S audits, and Pull Planning is desired.
    • Experience with data tools, deporting tools, and data analysis.
    • Close attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
    • Strong situational analysis and decision making abilities.
    • Ability to facilitate complex groups.
    • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
    • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
    • Construction industry experience in a similar role is preferred.
    • Experience with Lean/Continuous Improvement Programs including but not limited to Six Sigma/Kaizen/Total Quality Management and, related techniques such as SIPOC a plus.
    • Lean Six Sigma Certificate, Lean Enterprise Institute Certificate, or similar continuous improvement a plus.
    • Including analysis of functional and organizational business processes, data collection, and optimizing processes.
